For years, Wanlamun in Chiang Mai has had us yearning for traditional Thai desserts. Needless to say, the launch of a new branch in Bangkok has revitalized the dessert scene despite some people thinking that Thai sweets have gone out of fashion. Tucked in a small sub-soi off Soi Convent, Wanlamun’s desserts stick to classic Thai recipes. Try Wanlamun’s darathong and sanaechan, two of the nine auspicious Thai desserts. Otherwise, stick to classic and heavenly sweet treats like sai sai (steamed flour with coconut filling), kanom tuay (coconut pudding), tua pap (steamed flour stuffed with mung beans) and bua loy (taro balls in coconut milk).
